What a fantastic way for this team to sign off. An empahtic 7-0 win to earn the crown of U16 Division 1 Champions. A brilliant end to the season, with some great wins.
We didn't play our best in the first half, but went in with the lead as Ethan Dunbar found the bottom corner with a free kick on 23 mins.
Once again, our start to the 2nd half was electric and we blew the opposition away early doors. 4 mins in and a long ball downfield from Alex Fulford, set Ethan Dunbar away between the 2 defenders and he finished the 1 on 1 well. 2 mins later, Kian Gardiner swang a great ball in from the left, behind the defence for Ethan Dunbar to crash home at the far stick, securing his FIRST hat-trick of the game. 4 mins later and a riochocheted ball forward was acrobatically flicked over the last defender by Ethan Dunbar, putting himself in behind to lob the keeper. 3 mins after that, Jon Whiting cut infield from the right and played a slide rule pass for Ethan Dunbar to finish well again.
Scoring slowed until the last 10. On 72 mins, Kye Brice set Josh Bird in behind the defence. Josh created space, but then passed back to Kye Brice for a tap in. And then in the last minute, Ethan Dunbar secured his 2nd hat-trick with a prod home, after a shot by Tyler Jones was parried by the keeper.
This has been a phenomenal end to the season. They deserve it. Proud of them all. CHAMPIONS!!!!
DIVISION 1: Gala Wilton 1-2 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Sunday 14th April 2019
A fantastic display of grit, determination and desire. Great effort all over the pitch and the deserved result.
Despite chances for both sides, it was goal-less at half time.
Panthers had an electric start to the second half with both goals in the first 3 minutes. The first came from some great passing play out from the back between Cole Hallam and Ehren Wintle. The final pass into the area from Cole Hallam, was controlled by Ethan Dunbar on the turn and then a shot into the bottom corner. Then a couple of minutes later, Josh Bird had created space for a shot at goal which was parried out by the Gala keeper to Kye Brice. Kye steadied himself then crossed into the area for Ethan Dunbar to header home his second.
Just after the mid-point of the second half, Gala pulled one back to make it a nervy end to the game. A free kick was hit into the box for a free volley into the net.
A superb effort today. Proud of them all. A captains performance by Ben Murphy.
DIVISION 1: Churchdown Panthers Whites 2-1 Gala Wilton
Sunday 31st March 2019
A forward in goal, 2 midfielders and a forward in defence, and 10 men for 50 mins of a game against top of the table. Could only be one result, right? Not when you have a team of players with the battle, fight and desire they showed today. Every one of them should be proud of a gritty performance.
Gala did get their noses in front on 14 minutes. A long ball forward that we didn't deal with, fell for the forward who created space on the edge and drilled the ball into the corner. That lead only last 3 minutes. A Jakub Kroliczak corner, found its way straight into the net, give or take 1 or 2 Gala heads. Jakub is claiming the goal :).
Then 20 mins later, Panthers were in front. Great work on the right wing by Josh Bird, who beat one, cut inside and drove into the area before being felled. Josh picked himself up, and converted the penalty with confidence.
The only negative was in the last few minutes of the half, when Dan Clayton picked up a straight red for innapropriate language.
There was a few chances for goals for both sides in the 2nd half, but neither finding the back of the net. Largely this was a result of game management and downright sheer determination by the Panthers players. A few will sleep well tonight.
What a great performance on a very bobbly pitch which made good football a tough ask. Good performances all over the pitch. Solid at the back with a bit of a makeshift defence. A battling midfield performance, and a return to Panthers debut goal for Tyler Jones. Plenty to be happy about.
Despite being the best team in the first half, we went in 1-0 down. A corner on 30 minutes that was bundled over the line. Defending set pieces are an area we need to work on.
We were confident of getting back in it in the second half, and created enough chances for it to have been an even more convincing scoreline. 17 mins into the 2nd half, some great work on the left flank by Josh Bird, who played it into the area for Ethan Dunbar. The challenge on Ethan pushed the ball to Kye Brice to toe-poke home. On 63 mins, Dan Clayton took a quick throw down the right hand touchline for Cole Hallam to spin and get past 2 defenders, before the latter bundled him over in the box. Ethan Dunbar stepped up to confidently convert the pen. And then in stoppage time we got the deserved third. Kian Gardiner with a ball down the left wing for Ethan Dunbar, who squared to put Tyler Jones through 1 on 1, finishing in style.
A fantastic effort and a deserved win against a good team.
