DIVISION 1: Churchdown Panthers Whites 5-4 Kings Stanley
Sunday 29th April 2018
For the last game of the season, and with nothing riding on it, we let the boys have a bit of fun and run the team themselves. There was some interesting tactical changes, a couple of noteworthy ones, but a far higher number of tactical changes I am not sure we will see again :).
Kings Stanley took the lead on 26 mins. The striker latching on to a good through ball and rounding Cameron Thornton in goal. Then Panthers fired twice in the last 5 mins of the half. Ethan Dunbar crossed the ball into the box for Dan Clayton to volley home. Then shortly after Ethan Dunbar just beat the keeper to a ball over the top, but was taken out by the keeper. Cameron Thornton stepped up to slot home the penalty.
10 mins into the second half Panthers extended the lead. Jon Whiting with a great ball forward to Camreron Thornton to burst on to and finish expertly. Then it was Stanleys turn, a 4 on 2 break and a shot that Dan Clayton (now in goal) got a hand to, but not enough to stop it crossing the line. Another 6 mins before Panthers score again. Jon Whiting again the provider for Ethan Dunbar, whose cross/shot was turned over the line by Alex Fulford. Cue a response from Stanley. A free kick from almost that half way line, somehow beat Dan Clayton's catch. Then Panthers again. Anna Barnes with a great ball in for Alex Fulford who beat the keeper at the third time of asking. And last word went to Stanley with a long ball forward and Ethan Dunbar (now in goal), outdone in the 1 on 1.
It was a nice way to round off the season. All players had a great laugh and enjoyed the game. Our player(s) of the match, is ALL of them.
DIVISION 1: Gala Wilton 5-1 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Tuesday 24th April 2018
You know what, we did make some uncharacteristic mistakes, and we didn't do some of the basic stuff right, but the half time score was harsh. We also didn't have the rub of the green. From the mid point of the first half to the end of the match, we were the better footballing side.
5 minutes - too much time in midfield and a ball punted over the top, was finished well.
12 minutes - a long punt forward, flick on and we conceeded a foul on the edge of the box. The free kick was well executed off the inside of the upright.
32 mintues - a long punt forward from a free kick near the half way line, which caught in the wind and floated into the roof of the net.
34 minutes - a good through ball that was finished well.
39 minutes - a long punt forward, a flick on and a goalkeeping error by Alex Fulford, splilling the ball and leaving a tap in.
We switched formation for the second half and caused them problems. Many more chances created. A number of shots that were too hot to handle for the Gala keeper, but they seemed to bounce of his legs and luckily behind all the time. A deserved colsolation goal eventually arrived with just 4 mins left. Ed Leech drove into the box and was felled. Alex Fulford converted from the spot.
It was no doubt a disappointing result at this stage of the season, but there is plenty to look back on and be proud of. Having come off the bench and instilled a bit of solidity in midfield, our player of the match was Jon Whiting.
Goal kick by Prestbury, intercepted by Kian Gardoner, whose shot was saved. Evenly matched start. Free kick from Kian Gardiner was saved. Joe Jeremiah great pass for Jakub Kroliczak who shot just wide. Great battling by Cameron Thornton to earn a free kick. 26 mins - Aidan Limbird turn on right, crossed for Ed Leech to set up Ethan Dunbar for a tap in. Ethan Dunbar free kick, goalie saved. Shot from Prestbury over the bar. Another shot by Prestbury, excellent save by Alex Fulford.
Great defence helping Alex Fulford. Jakub Kroliczak with a shot over. Prestbury deserved an equaliser 1-1. Free kick to Prestbury skied over the bar. Controversial decision by referee. Linesman flagged for the ball out of play, a Prestbury player caught the ball in the box, but the referee had not blown his whistle. Ehtan Dunbar fired home the penalty. Great run down line bu Ethan Dunbar keeping the ball. Great body block by Ehren Wintle. Booking to Prestbury player. Great work by Joe Jeremiah running down and taking on players. Great work by Ethan Dunbar going past 2 players, resulted in a corner. Jakub Kroliczak with a great cross from deep was turned in by Tom Whiteside 1-3. Cross from Joe Jeremiah, collected by Tom Whiteside left foor into goal 1-4. Good defence from boys. Good talking by Ben Murphy. Corner for Panthers, Ethan Dunbar shot on goal but saved. Good save to goalie from Ethan Dunbar shot. Great work by linesman Chris.
Panthers were not at their best today, but still managed to grind out a good resilt. Player of the match was Jazton Juico.
A very solid performance, and plenty of good football. A great effort by every player.
Despite creating a number of chances early on, it did take 26 mins to register the first goal. Cameron Thornton drove into the box and was felled. Charlie Holliday found the corner with the resultant penalty. Then on 33 mins a great ball from Joe Jeremiah left Kye Brice to finish in style.
Just 5 mins into the 2nd half and a towring clearing header from Jazton Juico, was flicked on expertly by Charlie Holliday into the path of Ethan Dunbar to finish. 3 mins later, Jon Whiting fed the ball out left for Jakub Kroliczak, whose cross/shot dropped inside the far post. On 56 mins, Jakub Kroliczak was the provider, crossing for an Ethan Dunbar rap in. Then 6 mins later, Jon Whiting slid the ball in behind the defence for Ethan Dunbar to finish. One minute later and an Ethan Dunbar shot was saved, but Ed Leech was brightest in the box to knock in the rebound. On 71 mins, great strength from Kye got him away from markers and it was his turn to feed Ethan Dunbar for another finish. 5 mins later, a Joe Jeremiah cross was half cleared into the path of Ethan Dunbar who fired home again, on the half volley. The last chance of the game felll to Joe Jeremiah who won a penalty, but then fired the spot kick over the bar.
Panthers were sensational at times today. A difficut one to single anyone out, but with 5 goals and an assist, the player of the match goes to Ethan Dunbar..
This game was a really tough ask on a very heavy pitch. It was somewhat marred by some controversial moments, but Panthers bossed the majority of the game.
Wotton actually took the lead on 28 minutes. Daniel Clayton seemed to execute a perfect WWE maneouvre on the Wotton striker, which resulated in a converted penatly.
But Panthers took charge 3 mins later. Cameron Thornton found Jaydon Lehal who fed the ball perfectly for Jon Whiting to hit a banging levelller, in off the bar. Then 6 mins after that, Jon Whiting crossed into the box to Tom Whitside who controlled the ball on the turn and allowed Jakub Kroliczak to finish at the far post.
The only goal in the 2nd half came on 74 mins, when a Wotton backpass evaded their own keeper for an own goal
Panthers were in conrol of this game. The back 4 were solid, but the midlfield were a delight. The player that stood out for contirbution and is the player of the match, is Cameron Thornton.
DIVISION 1: Kings Stanley 2-2 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Sunday 8th April 2018
So what do we make of today's game? Two points dropped, or one point gained? It was probably a half of each. We were second best to a team that played with a better intensity in the first half. Then a much improved performance in the second half, got us a point and very nearly all three.
Panthers did snatch the lead in the first half on 28 mins. A through ball from Charlie Holliday gave Ethan Dunbar the chance. His shot cannoned back off the keeper, back off Ethan and into the net. But we conceeded twice before half time. A corner on 34 mins was met by a free header to level, then in the last minute Alex Fulford was judged to have brought down the Stanley striker, and the resultant penalty was converted.
The only goal in the 2nd half was the leveller 18 mins in. Joe Jeremiah showed great strength to win the ball on the right, then drove forward, before putting a cross into the path of Charlie Holliday who fired home.
Panthers were the better side in the 2nd half and laid seige to the Stanley goal in the latter stages of the game. But for 2 worldy saves and a header agains the cross bar, we could have knicked all 3 points. Player of the match is a difficult shout today, but the player who was most consistent was Jon Whiting.
A fantastic team performance notched up a third clean sheet on the trot. Our passages of play were better than the opposition, and we contained them to very few chances of any note. Despite an effort coming back off the Cleeve post, we went in goaless at half time.
The deserved break through, came 10 mins into the 2nd half. A Jonathan Whiting corner fell for Jazton Juico whose shot was parried, only for Kian Gardiner to smash the ball home from close range. We made sure of the points in the last 10 mins. Kye Brice set Ed Leech away. Ed held off the defender, before playing a great ball across the area for an Ethan Dunbar tap in.
Everyone deserves to feel really pleased with themselves this evening. They did a great job. It is hard to pick out one person, but for his endless doggedness in midfield, the player of the match is Cam Thornton.
We weren't at our best today, which was not suprising having had a few weeks of cancelled games, but were still in full control of this game.
It took 25 mins to register the first goal. Charlie Holliday dribble down the left flank, beat 2 and crossed for an Ed Leech tap in. 10 mins later and another Charlie Holliday cross led to a goal, the clearing header falling to Kye Brice on the edge of the area, who found the top corner. Kye then turned provider on 40 mins with a wonderful back heel that put Charlie Holliday through in the box and he finished superbly past the keeper.
On 67 mins, Cameron Thornton floated a free kick in behind the defence, which found Ethan Dunbar who headed past the keeper. 2 mins later and a shot by Kian Gardiner, was then volleyed by Ed Leech, to cannon off a defender and into the back of the net. Dubious goal decision panel awarded the goal to Ed Leech :). 2 more mins later and a ball kicked from the Wotton keepers hands, was expertly controlled by Jaydon Lehal, who then dinked the ball over the top for Ed Leech to run on to and chip the keeper. Then 3 mins later we may it 7. Cameron Thornton hit a shot across the keeper, which was turned in by Kye Brice.
The players dropped the tempo to that of the opposition. Had we played at the standard and pace we are capable of, this would have been a far bigger margin. The player who was superb today, adapting what he has been shown in training in regard movement off the ball, and for his hat-trick, the player of the match is Ed Leech.
