LEAGUE CUP QF: Leckhampton Rovers Lions 2-0 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Sunday 19th November 2017
It is of course disappointing to see the end of one cup run. However, the pleasing thing to take from today is that Panthers were the only team trying to play good football.
Leckhampton scored 2 first half goals, which is the first time this season we have conceeded in the first half!! It took just 2 minutes for them to create a tap in for the first, and then 19 minutes in they scored again, on the break from our own attack.
We again struggled for a bit of tempo today, and wanted to take too many touches in the wrong areas of the pitch, giving up posession a bit too often. But when we did play, it was good, and we were competitive in the challenge. An injury to Tom Whiteside in the first couple of minutes did not do much to help! The most consistent players today, and doing a great job covering the defence when needed, our player of the match is Jon Whiting.
Onward and upward. Stuff to work on in training, but reasons to be proud of the effort.
LEAGUE CUP RD2: Churchdown Panthers Whites 5-0 Churchdown Panthers Reds
Sunday 12th November 2017
Despite scoring an early goal, Whites were a bit slow to get going today and find a rythym. But the last 10 minutes of the first half and throughout the second half, we played some really good stuff. We were not made to play at a high tempo, but what we did, we did effectively.
The early goal was on 3 minutes. A Jon Whiting corner, was headed clear but into the path of Daniel Clayton who found the roof of the net from 25 yards. Whites were unable to add to the goal until 31 minutes in. Jakub Kroliczak played Aidan Limbird in behind the defence and he crossed for Tom Whiteside to finish. Then with 5 minutes of the half left, some great simple passing on the left created space for Jon Whiting. Anna Barnes played it in for Jon, who turned and also fired into the roof of the net.
The game was wrapped up 5 minutes into the second half. A Jon Whiting corner fell to Jakub Kroliczak in the box, to smash in from close range. Then 8 minutes later a Jon Whiting cross was headed back into the box by Jakub Kroliczak for Ethan Dunbar to convert on the half volley. We created plenty more chances to add to the goals, but it didn't quite happen. Still a job well done.
The midfield trio of Jaydon Dix, Cameron Thornton and Jon Whiting were excellent today. For keeping the game simple, recognising when he needed to cover defenders, and working well at finding space to receive the ball, our player of the match is Jaydon Dix.
GFA COUNTY CUP RD 2: Fairford & Lechlade 1-7 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Sunday 5th November 2017
Some spells of great football from us today, good quick passing and creating plenty of chances.
It took just one minute to open our account. A volleyed ball over the top by Cameron Thornton was taking in hs stride by Ethan Dunbar, finishing when 1 on 1. The lead was extended on 14 minutes. A Jakub Kroliczak corner was nodded in by Kian Gardiner. Then on 21 minutes, Kian Gardiner used pace down the left to get to the byline and smash the ball across goal, for Tom Whiteside to finish at the back stick.
We were a bit slow to get going in the second half and Fairford were the better team for the first 10 minutes. Early in the second half, they also scored. We lost possession in midfield, and as the defense stepped out, left room behind for a 1 on 1 which was converted. But we wrapped the game up in 2 minutes around the quarter hour mark. First an Aidan Limbird ball behind the defence for Ethan Dunbar was cut back to Jaydon Dix on the edge of the area, to fire a debut goal in off the post. Then Jon Whiting fed Kian Gardiner on the right hand side and a deep cross was headed in by Ethan Dunbar.
On 23 minutes of the second half, Kian Gardiner challenged for a ball which as a result broke for Ethan Dunbar to convert a 1 on 1 and complete his hat trick. Then with 10 minutes left, a Jakub Kroliczak corner was cleared to Aidan Limbird on the edge of the area, who caught hold of a great half volley to conclude the scoring.
Good work in spells, a few things to work on, but generally a good day at the office and a deserved win. For his work rate, goal and 3 assists (even if Terry says he can't claim the last one ;)), our player of the match was Kian Gardiner.
DIVISION 1: FC Lakeside 0-3 Churchdown Panthers Whites
Sunday 8th October 2017
Another week with the team stretched for numbers. Special mentions to Elliot Whitfiled who made a star appearance outfield (almost converting an overhead sissor kick volley :)) and to Kye Brice, playing despite still recovering from a knee injury.
We were not at our best in the first half, but still created a few chances to score, while remaining solid at the back. Amoung the chances was a penalty for Ed Leech, who after winning it, unfortunatley saw his effort from the spot saved, by a keeper who played well for Lakeside.
The football in the second half was much better, and the movement we talked about at half time got us the first goal 5 minutes in. Tom Whiteside played an angled ball from the middle of the park, for Kian Gardiner on the left to drive in at goal. His effort was saved, but Ethan Dunbar was brightest in the area, to turn in the rebound. Then just a minute later, Aidan Limbird picked up in midfield and fed in to Ethan Dunbar who beat the last man and finished well. It took until the 68th minute to score again. Ethan Dunbar completed his hat-trick after finding space at the back post from an Aidan Limbird corner.
Clear improvement in the second half, and a deserved win in the end, even though we had to be patient. For doing a job in midfield that he didn't want to do, yet still bagging a hat-trick, our MOM is Ethan Dunbar.
